The Boston Brew are one of the first bands I photographed when I decided to start photographing live bands. This was back in the days when I still used a flash. Nowadays I tend not to use a flash because I don’t think it’s fair on the band having a flash going off in their faces although using a flash does improve the image quality (less grain). Personally I love the grainy look of my more recent work.
Howard, the singer, is great to photograph, with his many interesting facial expressions and movements. The photos below were taken at a pub with no stage, and in these early days I was quite self-conscious and just took photos from a standing position, so there are no interesting angles. The Boston Brew are currently rehearsing with a new line-up and will hopefully be playing live again soon.
